California Gull
(Adopted 1955)

Long-winged and graceful in flight, gulls are also competent swimmers. They will eat almost anything, including garbage, and thus will survive. Young gulls, running the gamut of browns, grays, and white, can be difficult to identify. There are 45 species of gulls in the world; 20 nest in North America, another 4 are visitors.
