Ring-necked Pheasant
(Adopted 1943)

This gamecock-like bird with its sweeping tail is an introduction from the Old World. Males are gaudy, females are brown; unlike the Ruffed Grouse, Pheasants have long pointed tails. Pheasants thrive in farm country across the northern states and the adjacent parts of Canada, capitalizing on waste grain left by the reapers.
