Cardinal

The Cardinal, all-red, with its pointed crest, black face, and triangular red bill, is a garden favorite. Its song is a series of clear slurred whistles; what cheer cheer cheer, etc., or; birdy birdy birdy birdy birdy. The female is buffy-brown with some red in the wings, tail, crest, and bill. Widespread south of Canada and west to the plains, the Cardinal has extended its range north in recent years, mainly because so many people are putting out sunflower seeds.
