Peregrine Falcon
(Adopted 2004)

The Peregrine Falcon can be recognized from other falcons by its size (near that of a Crow) and its heavy blackish "sideburns." This favorite of falconers was nearly eliminated from much of North America when DDT was used, but is now being restored by artificial propagation and restocking. During its travels the Peregrine favors open country, especially along the coast.
