Brown Thrasher
(Adopted 1970)

Longer and slimmer than a Robin, the Brown Thrasher may be told from the brown thrushes by its longer tail and striped, rather than spotted, breast. Related to the Catbird and Mocking bird, this bird has a song that bears a resemblance in quality, but each phrase is repeated in couplets, not delivered singly as in the Catbird, nor in series as in the Mocker. The Brown Thrasher is widespread east of the Rockies, from southern Canada to the Gulf states, spending the winter in the southern parts of its range. Several other thrashers live in the Southwest.
