Right Whale
(Adopted 1985)

A large, blackish whale, with raised, wart-like knobs on its head and sometimes with pale patches on its underparts. Only a thousand individuals survive off both coasts. The Atlantic population migrates north to the Gulf of St. Lawrence for the summer, the Pacific whales to southern Alaska. Both groups migrate to warmer waters for the winter. The Right Whale's spout resembles a V, forming 2 columns up to 15 ft. high.
