American Robin
(Adopted 1943)

This big thrush of our lawns and gardens is recognized by its brick-red breast and gray back. Although the Robin has a wide summer range, from treeline in Canada and Alaska to the Gulf states, it is regarded as a harbinger of spring in the northern U.S. and Canada. Its song, a clear caroling of short phrases , acts as an alarm clock for many of us.
