Colorado Hairstreak
(Adopted 1996)

You can find this spectacular purple butterfly perched on its caterpillar host plant, Gambel's Oak, during July and early August. The Colorado Hairstreak is found in oak woods or oak-pine forest in the southern Rock Mountains and in Southwestern mountains. The adults occasionally nectar at yellow flowers in the composite family.
