Garibaldi
(Adopted 1995)

As with many bright tropical fishes, the color pattern of the young Garibaldi differs from that of the adult. It starts out with striking blue markings but, at a length of about 2 1/2 inches, it begins to assume the bright orange adult coloration. This beautiful resident of Pacific kelp beds lives from Monterey Bay, California, to Baja California. Divers and aquarists often remark on its noisy clicking, especially at mealtime. Taking of the Garibaldi is strictly prohibited in California.
